Soul Reapers are one of the main races in Type Soul and a great choice for both new and experienced players. Their abilities and progression are well-balanced, making them rewarding to play from early levels through to endgame.
In this guide, we will walk through every stage of the Soul Reaper journey, from joining Soul Society to unlocking True Bankai.
⸻
Step 1: Enter Soul Society
To begin, you will need to travel to Soul Society. Press N, select Next, and open your Senkmon gateway. Equip it and step through to reach Soul Society, unless you already spawned there. It is a traditional Japanese-style city with tiled rooftops.
⸻
Step 2: Use the Mission Boards
Once inside, locate a mission board. Press the comma ( , ) key to display division leader locations, which will also help you find boards.
Any division works, but Division 8 is recommended for its easy missions. Create a party, queue for a mission, and defeat the two or three Hollows that spawn. Repeat these missions to rank up from Trainee to Grade 3.
⸻
Step 3: Join a Division (Recommended: Division 12)
When prompted to join a division, press the comma key to locate leaders. Division 12 is a strong choice. Speak to the leader to start the division quest, which involves clicking on certain Hollows within a time limit.
Tip: Minimising your game window can make the objective easier.
⸻
Step 4: Unlock Your Shikai
Continue division quests until you reach Grade 2. To unlock Shikai:
1. Meditate by pressing M.
2. Wait 5–7 minutes until you stand up automatically.
3. Meditate again, then a third time to enter your Shikai world.
Defeat your inner spirit using M1 attacks, crits, and careful movement. Avoid harder Shikai like Kyoka Suigetsu if possible. Once you win, grip your Shikai to claim it.
To activate Shikai in combat, press E then J.
⸻
Step 5: Unlock Vizard
Collect 10 Hogyoku Fragments from trades, ranked matches, or raids. Ask an Arrancar to open a Hueco Mundo portal, locate the Vizard NPC, defeat and grip them.
Initially, the mask applies a debuff because you are not yet a True Vizard.
⸻
Step 6: Get True Vizard Mask
While meditating after becoming a Vizard, you will be given three tasks:
• Win 3 raids with the mask on.
• Grip 20 Soul Reapers.
• Grip your Shikai 15 times.
Complete these to unlock True Vizard, which grants increased Reiatsu regeneration, in-combat healing, and other strong buffs.
⸻
Step 7: Bankai Progression
Bankai requires three stages:
Stage 1: Reach Elite Grade and win 13 raids.
Stage 2: Return to your Shikai world, speak to your inner spirit, and complete tasks:
• Kill 1 Bow Arrancar in Hueco Mundo with at least 20% damage dealt.
• Kill 80 Hollows via Soul Society missions with a full party.
• Grip 15 Elite-grade players.
Do not die during these objectives or you will reset progress.
Stage 3: Speak to Kisuke, then complete the Zanpakuto selection trial. Choosing two wrong blades triggers a cooldown. Alternatively, grip an opposite-race player to retry.
⸻
Bankai Fight Strategy
Your opponent has Bankai, you do not. Max Speed and learn:
• Blooming Cut
• Flash Step, Flash Step Mastery I & II
• Floating Strikes
• Perfect Flash Step
• Waterfall Dance
Hit, then disengage. Play safe and avoid combos. Patience wins this fight.
⸻
Step 8: True Bankai
Currently, little is confirmed. The NPC ENKT starts the quest, taking you into the Hellverse for a True Mode storyline. You must already have Bankai. Requirements beyond that are still unknown.
⸻
Recommended Skills and Shikai
• Best skill tree: Soul Reaper Kido for general use, Kendo for True Bankai builds.
• Recommended Shikai: Kyoka Suigetsu or Duality for versatility in PvP and PvE.
⸻
This progression path will take you from a basic trainee to one of the strongest fighters in Type Soul. With the right preparation and patience, Soul Reaper can dominate in both solo and team content.
