Roblox CEO Says ‘Creators Should Know Their Worth’ Amid Rising Game Acquisitions

Pay attention!

Roblox CEO

Something interesting is happening on Roblox. Popular games that used to be just fun side projects for talented developers are now being snapped up by bigger studios and investors. And David Baszucki, Roblox’s CEO, is paying attention. His advice for creators is simple but important: know your worth.

When asked about all these acquisitions, Baszucki didn’t give a yes-or-no answer about whether it’s good or bad. Instead, he acknowledged the reality most creators face. “It’s a free market out there,” he said. “People who create games are business people, and other people sometimes want to buy businesses.” In other words, the Roblox world is starting to look a lot like the real business world.

He went on to say that the platform’s role isn’t to stop deals from happening but to make sure creators aren’t left in the dark. He wants them to understand just how valuable their work is, and to avoid “naive deals” that don’t reflect that value. It’s a warning that sounds obvious but probably isn’t at the top of every young developer’s mind when a big offer lands in their inbox.

Interestingly, Baszucki also praised the acquisitions that have happened. He called many of them “elegant,” and said creators are generally getting what they deserve. But his bigger point was about transparency. When everyone knows the rules and the numbers, the market works better for everyone.

Here’s the thing that makes me pause. As more studios buy successful Roblox games, the platform could start to feel less like a playground for creativity and more like a marketplace dominated by a few big players. At the same time, these acquisitions can give talented developers a shot at turning their hobby into a career. It’s complicated, and Baszucki seems to know that.
