If you’re in Algeria and trying to play Roblox right now, chances are you’ve been stuck staring at error screens since early September. Around September 8, Algerian players started reporting that Roblox wouldn’t load at all unless they used a VPN. Some got the “experience unavailable” message, others just had the game time out on both desktop and mobile.
Naturally, the word “ban” spread fast. After all, Roblox has been pulled in places like Kuwait, Qatar, and Oman this year, with governments citing child safety concerns. So when Algeria’s Roblox community hit the same wall, a lot of people assumed their country had quietly joined the list.
Here’s the thing though: there’s no official statement from Algeria saying Roblox is banned. Not from the government, not from ISPs, not from Roblox itself. And when you look closer, it starts to feel less like a targeted block and more like Algeria’s shaky internet infrastructure acting up again.
During the same period Roblox went dark, users were also reporting issues with apps like Discord and YouTube. That points more to a broader network disruption than a Roblox-specific ban. Some Algerian players even said the game still works, just inconsistently, without needing a VPN. That doesn’t fit the pattern of a hard ban like we’ve seen in other countries.
Algerian Roblox fans have been venting their frustration on X and Reddit. Some insist this is the beginning of a full ban, maybe influenced by global pressure on Roblox after lawsuits in the U.S. about child safety and exploitation. Others blame poor infrastructure and shrug it off as another case of “internet in Algeria being internet in Algeria.”
One player mentioned they’ve been active since 2018 with no problems until now, which makes the sudden instability sting even more.
As of September 9, Roblox still pops up for some Algerians without a VPN, though it’s spotty. Downdetector hasn’t logged any official nationwide block. Roblox’s own support page still lists Algeria as an available region for PlayStation access, with no warnings or restrictions flagged.
So right now the situation is murky. Roblox could be collateral damage from Algeria’s broader network hiccups, or the start of something more restrictive that hasn’t been announced yet.
